Established in September 2013, The Arcade has been the leading cooperative working space for the broader video games industry.

In 2020, The Arcade merged with the Interactive Games & Entertainment Association (IGEA), a member-led not-for-profit industry association representing and advocating for Australian and New Zealand companies in the computer and video game industry.
This means not only can we provide you space to grow both personally and professionally, you will also experience how we actively work to support and encourage growth for the industry as a whole.
Whether you are a one person start-up or a team of 50, we can work with you to ensure there is a space the suits you and your business. With our flexible options, your working space can expand in line with your business.

Working in The Arcade gives you the chance to meet fellow developers and make contacts with vital people in the industry. Upskilling and growth in the gaming industry is a core focus for The Arcade.
The Arcade hosts seminar and workshop sessions for the benefit of companies in the Victorian games industry.
These events are presented by independent, external advisors, Arcade patrons and international guests on topics such as skills development, planning, diversity, business intelligence and marketing.
The purpose is to provide support and encourage growth of small game development companies by giving them access to relevant information, services and technology that would benefit their businesses.

The Arcade is thrilled to announce the SMART Program!
The South Melbourne Arcade Residency Tenure (SMART) Program is an assistive residency placement within The Arcade Melbourne, powered by City of Port Phillip.
The SMART Program aims to help early-career individuals have the opportunity to hotdesk out of The Arcade that might not otherwise have the financial means to attend.
The intention of this program is to help foster the production of game development within the City of Port Phillip, create a more accessible entry point to our diverse game developer community and to assist in financial pipelines for marginalised or low income game developers.
We want to pave the way for the next generation of talented developers by facilitating access to the learning, networking and engagement opportunities that naturally occur within The Arcade.
Thanks to the generous support of City of Port Phillip, the SMART program will allow a select number of amazing applicants access to The Arcade’s open plan hotdesking area for a number of months.

The first intake of applications are now closed.
Over the last five years, The Arcade has run a successful student engagement program with universities that run top of the line game development courses, and their students that are undertaking their final year of game development study.
This has mutually benefitted both the partnering University and The Arcade by not only creating top tier graduates who become the first choice for hiring studios inside and outside but also spawning studios directly out of university.
The program allows the partnering University to engage with The Arcade across a variety of on-site work, specialised events, natural networking and coordinated feedback sessions.
2021 marks the beginning of our newly expanded version of the program that offers even more opportunities to connect with our developers whether it is digitally or physically.

There is paid on street parking available on Tope Street, and The Arcade has a private undercover garage available.
